Today I’ve been vindicated. A reader chastized me last month for referring to the locals here as Nodaks. Having lived in North Dakota all his life, he stated that he had never heard of this term. I apologize for taking poetic license without really checking into research on the subject. But then, a contingent of motorhomers, all FMCA (Family Motor Coach Assn.) members decided to choose the Medora Campground as their get-together haven. They have parked just a few sites down from where we are staying. I had the pleasure of meeting a few of these RVers at the golf course yesterday as they came out for some entertainment. This group comprises a local FMCA chapter, known as the ‘Roamin’ Nodaks’. Most of them are from the Bismark-Mandan area while some others hail from Saskatchewan.Meeting the chapter president, Duane Hellman and his wife, Irene, was proof-positive of an instant camaraderie with this group. Duane provided us with a one year free membership to FMCA. Now all we have to do is to choose a local chapter. We’ll leave here at the end of the golf season so the Nodak chapter won’t work for us. It’ll just be too far a drive to attend any local rallies. Perhaps our plans to journey South for the winter will expose us to possibilities or even a chapter may exist in the Pittsburgh area. Hey, how about those Penguins! That’s what I love about this life–not knowing. The only thing we can expect is the unexpected.
Like I said before, there’s always one Wikipedia in the group, and they aren’t always right………as usual, your group of friends are ever expanding……..
