The Baths of Hot Springs

Posted by on April 12, 2009

I missed a post for two days due to the aftermath of the tornado. My dream has been to photograph one and escape unscathed. But the tornado came at the midnight hour and the darkness prevailed. In the neighboring town of Mena, three people died. We were fortunately on the top of the mountain and the majority of the damage was in the valleys below. Nevertheless, it kept me from posting these photos of our visit to downtown Hot Springs and the historic bath houses. The geothermal water arises to its outlets at a temperature of 146 degrees, which is then cooled to 110 so one can enjoy it. And that we did. Most bath houses are kept in condition as they were in the 20’s for historic purposes and not used as they were in the past. You will see those photos in the slideshow. There are, however, three houses whereby you can enjoy the spa, facials, massages and a host of other amenities. We shopped, visited cafes, historic hotels and just walked around snapping photos. Enjoy them, we’re off to Missouri and points . Happy Easter.
