It’s time to leave the Black Hills and move on. We had a great time but the gypsy genes are reverberating within. I’m yearning to get busy at this juncture and we’ve procured jobs for the time being. Our plans are to work at the Bully Pulpit Golf Course in Medora, ND. One last short ride before we left however, was a ride through Sturgis. If you don’t know yet, this is the site of the largest motorcycle rally in the country. The second week of each August a sleepy town of less than a thousand people welcome a little over a half million bikers to the town and surrounding Black Hills. I’ve never been to the rally but I needed to see the town. I was amazed to see this six block square area that rids itself of local four wheel traffic for those ten days in the heat of August. I will have to study the reason why this is the place for such a large festival.
It’s about a four hour ride north on the CanAm Highway into North Dakota where we would meet I-94 for a short twelve miles prior to rolling into Medora. There isn’t much to look at on this route 85, and the towns run far and few between. I believe in the four hour journey we made as many as two turns. There was a segment of the drive where I saw neither a vehicle in front or behind me, nor coming in the opposite direction for at least forty five minutes. And this is about all we saw for the next four hours. Until we settle in Medora……
It looks as if you’ve entered the Twilight Zone………compared to the beautiful scenery that you’ve been showing us to date. Looking forward to many more adventures!
